Can be in the spring for a “green top” yellow cooking onion by the beginning of July and a dried bulb by the end of July. Fills the gap between last year’s storage onions and this year’s crop from seed. Uniform, sweet, and flavorful, Shakespeare bulbs have excellent storage potential when well-cured. Originally bred in Great Britain specifically for onion sets, Shakespeare is known for its exceptional bolt tolerance, vigorous growth habit, and wide adaptability. Best at 37° latitude and higher. Sets avg. 11–21 mm. NOTE: Shakespeare sets are small, dry immature onion bulbs grown the season before. Also suited for fall planting in the North for overwintering. For fall planting, order Shakespeare #6512F.
